Asian American Timeline of Civil Rights

Asian-American Timeline of Civil Rights

The struggle for civil rights for Asian Americans has largely gone unnoticed in our history books. This timeline chronicles just a few of the key events in United States history to give light to the major triumphs Asian Americans have succeeded in, ranging from demands of reparations from the United States government to social and political protests. With these events being highlighted, I hope this can be used as a reminder to show how active Asian Americans were in the socio-political realm. In doing so, reigniting that desire and eventually reshaping our image from being a stereotypically palatable people to more resolute and assertive advocates for civil rights and human dignity.
The use of cloth banners was inspired by the fact that during the Asian American Movement in the 1960s, activist meetings were sometimes held in Asian restaurants, where they usually decorate their doorways with curtains, called Noren in Japanese.
